Fun and creative activity to do with your children

The summer is in full swing, and the kids are home from school. It is not easy entertaining your children 24/7 during the summer. Believe my I know, right this moment I have 3 children screaming their heads off telling me they are board, and that there is nothing to do. Could someone please tell me why we even buy our children toys, when they seem to have completely forgotten they exists. Or if you do tell them to go play in their room, the answer you will get is "with what, I have nothing to play with". Are you serious!!! They have monster trucks, wrestlers, dolls, train sets up the jing jang, but yet they have nothing to play with. It seems really hard for kids these days to entertain them self's without turning on the television or playing video games. And I have to admit that sometimes, so I can get everything done, I do tend to turn on the television for them. What a great roll model I'm.
A few weeks ago though we received a new product for the store, a 4 piece canvas set, which includes paint. As we do with most new products we receive, we test them out. So one day when the whining and screaming was at it max, I decided to break out the 4 piece canvas set and let the kids go to town. With my youngest children we did hand prints all over the canvases, while my oldest did his own "Picasso" master piece. We had a blast, and the kids look so proud when they look up on the wall where their master pieces are hanging on proud display. It was great being creative my children. You so easily get caught up in the daily chores that you simply forget that sometimes all your kids want to do is hang out with you. I highly recommend this product for all mothers and fathers, it is a great family project and you will have memories to last for a life time.

The 4 piece Canvas Set is available in "boy" colors and "girl" colors. I have attached two links below for you to check them out.

The curse of the pacifier, or not!

So the day was finally here, my 2 soon to be 3 year old daughter were going to do the dread full separation from her pacifier. May I also add it was not by choice she was departing from her precious plug. About 2 weeks ago we discovered a big tear in her silicon pacifier, probably from her continuously biting it. I refused to go and purchase her a new pacifier since I felt that this separation was long over do. After a long explanation to my daughter as to why she no longer could use her damaged pacifier, and how she was a big girl now, and not to mention Dora the Explorer does not use a pacifier (her favorite TV show), she finally agreed to throw away her broken pacifier. She actually returned to her bedroom with a smile on her face and told me “I’m a big girl now Mommy, I don’t need a map”, map is what she calls her pacifier. I left her room thinking to myself “Hey that went 10 times better than I could have ever imagine”, well I was in for a rude awakening. For the next 2 weeks our household was more than just sleep deprived, we were at our wits ends. My “big girl”, non-pacifier using daughter would wake up every 30-45 minutes crying asking for her map, which in turn would wake up her little brother, and the madness was in full spin. After 2 weeks of no sleep, and now having to re-train my youngest child to sleep in his own bed, I ask myself the question was all this madness worth letting my daughter start using the pacifier in the first place? It is not like they used the pacifier while they were in the womb; we are the ones who start forcing the pacifier on them as soon as they exit the womb.

Some research show that introducing a pacifier could interfere with breastfeeding. Other research shows that using a pacifier helps prevent SIDS, but you should wait to introduce the pacifier until your baby is 1 month old to prevent interfering with breastfeeding.

Maybe the key to the question is to take away the pacifier by the time your child turns 1 year old. Which is exactly what I did with my oldest son, I stopped breastfeeding when he turned 13 months and at the same time I removed the pacifier. He never as much said a peep about it. You would think I would have learned from the first time. I do believe that personality plays a roll in the pacifier game too, some children are more attached to their pacifier than others, but by removing it by the time they turn one year old they might not have developed as much of an addiction to it. When it is all said and done, what is 2 weeks of some madness compared to a very inexpensive way of keeping down the risk of SIDS? So YES, I would absolutely do it all over again!

Have you ever had one of those days when no matter what you do it just ends up being totally backwards. Well, today was one of those days. I had a million things on my schedule today. Vendors needed to be called, we needed to update our inventory, new display pictures needed to go in on the website, but for some reason or another that was not the plan in store for me today. The day started out with all my children apparently waking up on the wrong side of the bed (I wonder if they had a meeting last night, and decided lets make mommy's life a little tougher today). None of them wanted to get dressed, my middle one refused to let me fix her hair, my youngest decided it was more fun to throw the oatmeal across the table than to eat it, and my oldest decided that school was not for him, and that he would rather crawl back under the covers. My mother always told me "pick your battles", so I did. My daughter exited the house looking like Don King, my youngest left the house with most of his oatmeal in his hair. The battle I choose to pick was with my oldest. Guess who won that one? I finally got them all out of the house and off to their respective locations. When I arrived at the office everyone was in a panic, due to some files had gone missing for today's shipments. The printer was out of ink, the e-mail system had some sort of malfunction. Shall I continue, I guess you get the point, it was just one of those days.
But as I sit and reflect on this somewhat crazy day I have come to the realization that no matter what is thrown at you, and no matter how overwhelmed you feel, you get through it. Life would be pretty boring if you always had it exactly outlined and there was no hurdles in the road. Motherhood is one big roller coaster, and still, I can't wait to get back on the next ride.

I almost forgot, we are very excited to be able to welcome Kolcraft to the ComfyMe.com family. Kolcraft is a leading manufacturer of crib mattresses, playards, strollers and much more. We feel that it is not only important to have an informative blog, but also show that ComfyMe.com stands for so much more than just being a great online juvenile store. We want you as our customers to know that we care and value your opinion, and at the same time we want to be able to share with you our experience as parents, both our triumphs and mishaps.
